A basement remodel is one of the most valuable projects for a home. Converting unfinished basements to finished basements for your family not only gives you more room, but also improves multi-generational living options for your loved ones. And if you have an exterior entrance, a basement remodel can produce a rental unit to help bring in extra income. Whether you want to improve space for your family or make extra money, a basement remodel should be one of the first places in your home you look since it can offer the quickest return on investment.
Turn this basement...
...into this basement!
Why a basement remodel?
--- More Space If you have a basement, the easiest way to add space to your home is a basement remodel. Many times a basement has just as much square footage as the main floor, which can mean increasing the size of your home 50%-100% by finishing your basement. Create a family space, bedrooms, bathrooms, or anything else your growing family needs and hold off on buying an entirely new house.
--- Resale Value There are many ways to increase the resale value of your home but a basement remodel is one of the easiest. Not only can you relatively inexpensively add square footage, but you can also add 1-2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a family room. A small investment in finishing your basement can bring great returns.
--- Income Potential Finishing an unfinished basement can be a great source of income. Use your basement as a long-term rental and find renters to live there. Or convert your basement into a short-term rental unit and use sites like AirBnB to rent it to travelers. Either way, if making money is the direction you want to go, you can make a return on your basement remodel investment relatively quickly.
--- Multigenerational Living As families expand many would like to live closer to their loved ones. A basement conversion can create a wonderful living space for family members who want to be closer, but still have their own space. Why pay rent when family members can live close together and enjoy the many benefits.
What will you help me with?
We've worked on numerous basement conversions, including our own homes. We use these basements for everything from extra space, to family members, to short-term rentals, and long-term rentals. We'll walk you through the process and help wherever needed. We're not your contractors or your property managers, we're your voice of reason for this exciting project.
How does it work?
We are based out of Portland, OR but can work virtually with anyone in the country. We'll have meetings over the phone, facetime, skype, or through the technology of your choice, to look at your basement, drawings, bids, and anything else you'd like to discuss.
Contact us anytime for free to determine if we might be a good fit. If so, we'll then charge $100/hour for consultations (1 hour minimum). We can do as many or as few as you like, at whatever stage of the project you see fit. Questions that are usually covered in these consultations are:
1. Can I build what I want? 2. How much is it going to cost? 3. How do I change things to stay in my budget? 4. How do I vet contractors? 5. Do these bids look reasonable? 6. How do I handle a contractor who isn't fulfilling their end of the deal? 7. How can I monetize my basement as a rental? 8. How can I build something for my family member to age in place? 9. How much value will this project add to my house? 10. How much noise will transfer to the basement from the people upstairs? ... and many of the other questions we've heard over the years.
